The Story Beneath the Story

Every story begins somewhere deeper than words.
This is the story behind The Christmas Tree Wish — and why it now lives in three different Event Kits, each meeting children and adults exactly where they are.

Author Event Kits — Purposeful Story Experiences for Emotional Wellbeing

Each Author Event Kit offered here is a structured, facilitator-supported experience designed to support emotional wellbeing across the lifespan. Created for children, families, and seniors, these event kits use story as a therapeutic and relational tool to encourage expression, connection, and reflection in age-appropriate ways.  Whether the focus is imaginative engagement and resilience, grief and healing, or life reflection and continuity of meaning for older adults, each event is intentionally designed to meet participants where they are.  These are not performances or lectures, but guided story experiences that create safe, inclusive spaces for conversation, emotional processing, and shared understanding. Organizations are invited to explore the Magical, Grief & Healing, and Senior & Memory Care Event Kits to determine which offering best aligns with the population they serve and the outcomes they hope to support.

Why Story Works

Story is one of the earliest and most natural ways humans make sense of experience. For children, stories provide a safe symbolic language to explore emotions they may not yet have words for. For adults and seniors, story activates memory, reflection, and meaning-making — helping individuals integrate past experiences into a coherent sense of self.

Neuroscience and developmental psychology show that stories engage multiple areas of the brain at once, including emotion, imagination, memory, and empathy. This multi-sensory engagement allows participants to process feelings indirectly, without pressure to explain or resolve them. When stories are shared in a supportive environment, they foster connection, emotional regulation, and a sense of belonging.

The Christmas Tree Wish works because it does not instruct or diagnose — it mirrors. Through character, metaphor, and gentle pacing, participants recognize parts of themselves in the story. This recognition often opens pathways for reflection, conversation, and healing that feel natural rather than forced.

In this way, story becomes more than entertainment.

It becomes a relational tool — one that supports emotional wellbeing across ages, abilities, and life stages.

My Story

Why These Event Kits Exist

The Christmas Tree Wish was not written as a lesson — it was written as a lifeline.

Like Liam, the little tree at the heart of this story, there was a time in my life when I felt cut down, disoriented, and unsure how to keep living forward. I have known grief not only as loss, but as the quiet unraveling of identity — the feeling that something essential had been taken, and that I no longer knew who I was without it.

My journey back was not quick, and it was not linear.

It happened inwardly.

Through grief, imagination, presence, and a deep listening to what was still alive inside me, I discovered something that changed everything: even when something ends, light does not disappear — it transforms.

That truth became the foundation of The Christmas Tree Wish.

Over the years, I began sharing this story with children, families, educators, caregivers, and — more recently — elders. What I witnessed again and again surprised me. Some children responded with laughter, wonder, and curiosity. Others responded with quiet tears, deep listening, or questions they had never voiced before.

Among seniors and those in memory care, I saw something equally profound: a soft recognition, a settling, a remembering beyond words. Even when memory faltered, the story reached something deeper — a sense that their life had mattered, that nothing essential had been lost, and that what they are continues.

Both responses were right. That is why these Event Kits exist.

The Magical Author Event Kit honors imagination, wonder, and the natural language of childhood — offering a joyful, meaningful experience that helps children feel brave, connected, and seen.

The Grief & Healing Author Event Kit offers a gentler, trauma-aware container for children and families navigating loss, change, or emotional overwhelm — meeting them exactly where they are, without forcing language, answers, or outcomes.

The Senior & Memory Care Event Kit was created to honor a lifetime lived. It offers elders, residents, and families a way to reflect on meaning, legacy, and continuity — affirming that a life is not measured by productivity or memory, but by having existed at all. It reminds those nearing transition, and those walking beside them, that what they are cannot be taken, forgotten, or destroyed.

All three Event Kits come from the same place: my own lived experience of grief, healing, and remembering who I am. This work is not something I teach from theory. It is something I live, and something I have watched support others — children, adults, elders, and families alike — in finding their way back to themselves.

Whether your community is seeking magic, healing, remembrance, or quiet meaning, these Event Kits were created to offer one simple thing:

A safe space where story can do what it has always done best —

help us remember that light continues.

“Even when something ends, light does not disappear — it transforms.”
